What is Robotics?

Robotics is the science and technology of robots, their design, manufacture, and application. Robotics needs a functioning knowledge of electronics, mechanics, and software. A person running in the field is a roboticist. The word robotics was first used in make known by Isaac Asimov, in his science fiction short story "Runaround" (1941).

Even though the exterior and capabilities of robots fluctuate enormously, all robots share the features of a mechanical, changeable structure under a few form of control. The chain is warped of links, actuators and joints which can let one or more degrees of freedom. The majority contemporary robots use open serial chains in which each link connects the one before to the one after it. These robots are called serial robots and time and again resemble the human arm. Some robots, like Stewart platform, exploit closed parallel kinematic chains. Other structures like mimic the mechanical structure of humans, different animals and insects, are reasonably rare. On the other hand, the development and use of such structures in robots is a dynamic area of research. Robots used as manipulators have an end effector mounted on the last link. This end effecter can be something from a welding mechanism to a mechanical hand used to control the environment.
